This land was not needed for housing. It was rezoned because the developer lobbied Council for a higher return on his investment.
This is another example of Council ignoring the wishes of the community, which loudly demonstrated it wanted the green space protected.
A major decision is expected Monday in a battle that’s spanned nearly two-years. City council will decide the fate of Harvest Hills Golf Course in Calgary’s northeast.

Council need not approve this “rezoning”. Its rational is always that it is private land, therefore the owner has the right to do with it as they please. Of course they do, but within the current zoning, which they knew when they bought it.
