BRING BACK CALGARY
|
BRING BACK CALGARYCreate jobs The economic boom Calgary enjoyed from oil sand plant construction is over, and it is not coming back. Pipeline construction that would have taken Alberta oil to market has been stopped; and, even if the lines were built, the markets that used to thirst for Alberta oil now have newer, less expensive, oil supplies. So, Calgary's growth has reached a more normal plateau, and new jobs have to be found for the tens thousands of displaced oil workers. This search for new jobs should be the number one priority of Calgary's Mayor and Council. Leave secondary suites and the number of taxis to Administration. |
BRING BACK CALGARYProtect green space A casualty of the economic boom is green space. The rush of new construction in the city saw a blatant disregard for parks and other open spaces despite vociferous and focused public opposition. For example, the construction on Paskapoo Slopes was opposed by a petition with over 11,000 signatures. Communities have a right to determine what happens in their communities.

BRING BACK CALGARYSome examples The Calgary of full employment and public green spaces will not happen overnight, and will not happen by itself. Calgary needs a Mayor and Council commited and dedicated to Bring Back Calgary.
